Today, it was revealed that Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy franchise The Witcher is being brought to the TV world via Netflix. That's right,
Netflix has announced that it is developing and producing a new English language drama series based on The Witcher, the globally popular fantasy saga from Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, which you may know as a video game series via CD Projekt Red.
Known collectively as the Witcher Saga, Sapkowski's eight novels and story collections center on “witchers” — monster hunters who via immense training and body modification develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle deadly monsters. More specifically, the saga centers around the witcher Geralt of Rivia, who is also the protagonist in the games.
The project will be handled by Sean Daniel (who you may know from Ben-Hur, The Expanse, and The Mummy franchise) and Jason Brown (The Expanse), who will serve as executive producers. Additionally, Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning Tomek Baginski (who also directed all three of the game's opening cinematics) and Jared Sawko from Platige Image, a Polish production and visual effects company, will have their hands in the project, with Baginski directing at least one episode of each season. Author Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as a creative consultant on the series.
