A couple days ago, AMD announced new
Athlon 64 X2
processors based on 65nm process technology. So far the chips are nowhere to
be seen on either Newegg, however, that hasn't stopped
a member of the XtremeSystems forums known as Nedjo from getting his hands
on one of the chips and testing it. The processor in question is a 65nm Athlon
64 X2 5000+ with a stock speed of 2.6GHz, 512KB of L2 cache, and stock voltage
of 1.232V. Naturally, Nedjo tried to overclock the chip, and he reached a cool
3.1GHz with the voltage at 1.384V (but set to 1.5V in the system's BIOS.)
Considering how new AMD's 65nm process is, these early results certainly bode
well for the company's future chips.
