ViewSonic
has announced the V38r-06, V38r-07 and V38r-07a rugged handheld computers,
designed and built to meet mobile computing demands across a variety of
industries, including retail, public safety, healthcare and military. Built on
an older Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 operating system and Intel Xscale CPU,
the handheld computers are compatible with existing IT infrastructures, and
offer features such as Bluetooth and GPS tracking.
All these new devices meet the IP54 design standards for sealing against dust,
moisture and extreme environmental conditions, while offering secure data
exchange with 802.11b/g wireless communications and Cisco infrastructure
compatibility. The ViewSonic V38r models feature a 3.5-inch 240 x 320
(QVGA) LCD display and 520MHZ Intel Xscale processor, along with a
hot-swappable, rechargeable Li-Ion battery that allows battery changes without
shut down or loss of data.
A jog-dial and four launch buttons enable simple navigation through files and
applications, and a built-in Secure Digital (SD) slot provides additional memory
for storage and back-up operations. The V38r-07/-07a (pictured) is the premier
model in the V38r Series and is packed with 802.11b/g wireless, Bluetooth, bar
code scanner, 1.3 megapixel camera, fingerprint sensor and GPS (Global
Positioning System) support. The V38r-07a is Trade Agreement Act (TAA) compliant
to support government sales.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price of the V38r-07 and V38r-07a is
US$1,899 and US$1,999 respectively. The V38r-06 combines data communications and
bar code scanning capabilities in one simple package by integrating 802.11b/g
wireless, Bluetooth, bar code scanner and a secure digital (SD) card slot. The
MSRP of the V38r-06 is US$1,599.
