Even though Sony has had major recall problems with its laptop batteries this
year it is still in the laptop business and
this Reuters story reports that the company will soon launch the Vaio G laptop
which is the lightest laptop ever made (according to Sony). At 889 g, the Vaio G
packs a 12.1" 1024x768 display, a 1.06GHz Intel Core Solo U1300 processor, 512MB
of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a fingerprint reader,
and a battery that can keep the machine running for up to six hours. Users will
also be able to opt for slightly heavier models with a 1.2GHz Core Solo U1400,
60GB hard drive, and up to 12.5 hours of battery life. Sony will make the
machine available in Japan on December 2 starting at ¥215,000 ($1,837) for the
base model and going up to ¥245,000 ($2,093) for pricier variants. There are no
plans to release the laptop directly in the US.
