Apple announces new MacBook with a 12-inch Retina display - [hardware]

Apple has announced the new 12-inch MacBook with Retina display. The new MacBook is being marketed as the thinnest and lightest Mac ever. The 12-inch notebook weighs just two pounds and is incredibly thin at just 13.1mm. The star of the show though, is no doubt the 12-inch Retina display. The Retina panel comes with a resolution of 2304 x 1440, giving it a pixel density of 226 PPI. The display is the thinnest display Apple has ever used on a notebook and is also claimed to be highly efficient with a claimed 30 percent lower power consumption than Retina displays on the MacBook Pro models. The other highlight of the new MacBook is the all-new Force Touch' trackpad with a built-in force sensor that lets you click anywhere and haptic feedback to ensure a responsive feel each time. There is also the option of changing the amount of pressure needed to register a click. There is also the USB-C type port that combines charging, USB 3.1 5Gbps data transfers, and DisplayPort 1.2 all in a single port while being one-third the size of a traditional USB port. The new MacBook is powered by the latest Intel Core M Broadwell CPUs clocked at 1.1 or 1.2GHz depending on the configuration, with Turbo Boost speeds of 2.4 and 2.6GHz respectively. Quite expectedly, there is no dedicated graphics on offer, instead you will have to make do with the Intel HD Graphics 5300. 8GB RAM comes standard on all models, with a choice of 256 or 512GB onboard SSD storage. Apple's new MacBook will begin shipping April 10th onwards. The base configuration with an Intel Core M 1.1GHz CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and Intel 5300 HD Graphics will be available for $1,299. The higher-end configuration with an Intel Core M 1.2GHz CPU, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and Intel HD Graphics 5300 will cost you $1,599.
