Tim Burton's new drama Big Eyes stars Amy Adams (Man of Steel) and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) as Margaret and Walter Keene, known in the 60's for a series of cheezy paintings of children with huge eyes. In the movie, husband Walter Keene claims credit for Margaret's paintings, under the guise that people wouldn't take art seriously if it was painted by a woman. Walter spins her paintings into a massive commercial success, while behind the scenes Margaret is in torment over having hide from everyone that she is the real artist behind the waif paintings. Both stars turn in great performances and the movie does hold your attention. The big drawback is that once you have seen the trailer or even read a description of the movie, it doesn't have any secrets left to unveil. Burton never takes the story in any daring directions and the characters never seem all that deeply emotionally impacted by their fraud and secrets. It is more of an interesting tale, nothing more. If you were expecting any kind of Tim Burton weirdness, you won't find it here.
