Intel E6300 and E6400 Core 2 Duo Review - TechAmok
Intel E6300 and E6400 Core 2 Duo Review - [hardware] 09:11 AM EDT - Sep,07 2006 - post a comment Neoseeker
has published a review of Intel's E6300 and E6400 Core 2 Duo chips:
The E6300 sits at the bottom of Intel's Desktop Core 2 lineup and despite
being a brand new chip, can be had for less than $200 from major online
retailers. It's clocked at 1.86 GHz, just over 2GHz less than the 2.16 GHz E6400
which can be had for under $250. As brand new chips, these prices are incredible
and will doubtless make these CPU's the subject of high demand for quite some
time.
We can draw some very interesting conclusions from our testing.
- If you are primarily a business user of office software, you are actually
better off saving money with a low cost X2 3800+
-- If you do a lot of multimedia production - MP3 and MPEG encoding - Core 2 Duo
is for you
- If you are a gamer, you are better off with a Core 2 Duo 6400 than an AM2 X2
5000+, basedon their equal price points
- The Core 2 Duo's overclock AMAZINGLY well on a good motherboard
There's of course got to be a catch... or more than one.
- The price is high relative to the AM2, at least on the low end
- A good P965 motherboard will cost a lot more than a good AM2 nForce
motherboard
- Availability is an issue
- Some people have reported memory compatibility issues with P965 motherboards;
we did not experience those problems
