As promised, Microsoft has released the
Windows 10 Technical Preview and you can download it now! The OS, which is designed to give you a small flavor of what will be included in the final release of Windows 10, is still an early build. The build number for this release of the OS is 9841 (despite the fact that later builds are currently floating around inside the walls of Microsoft). As with any non-commercial release, you should not install this OS on production hardware as there could be bugs that make some software not work as intended. If you have the ability, installing this OS inside a virtual machine is the safest option and if you can't do that, I suggest you designate an older machine as a testing device and install Windows 10 on it.
As with earlier OS previews, this one won't live on forever, of course. In Microsoft's release notes, it states that the 'Technical Preview expires on April 15, 2015. If you're running Technical Preview, we'll send you notifications beginning on April 1, 2015 to remind you that it's time to upgrade your PC to a newer version.'
