The Inquirer has now learned that
a "whole
group" of 3Dlabs engineers was hired by Intel. The Inq reckons those
ex-3Dlabs folks might be working on Intel's rumored discrete graphics processor,
reports about which have been circulating for some time. Before refocusing
on handheld graphics, 3Dlabs was actually poised to enter the desktop graphics
market itself following its acquisition by Creative. The 3Dlabs team also played
a key part in developing the OpenGL 2.0 specification and the GLSL shading
language as a member of the OpenGL Architecture Review Board.
