Zalman Reserator 1 Plus Passive Computer Water Cooling System - [hardware]
07:07 PM EDT - Aug,10 2006 - post a comment

Tweaknews has posted a review on the Zalman Reserator 1 Plus Passive Computer Water Cooling System. It's silent, has adequate cooling performance and comes complete with CPU and VGA cooling solutions!
As I mentioned earlier, The Reserator 1 Plus from Zalman is a niche product, aimed at the silent computing crowd. As such, this product does an excellent job. It's silent, has adequate cooling performance and comes complete with CPU and VGA cooling solutions. The manuals and online support are superb and the kit can be used with a wide variety of hardware.

I didn't like the fact that the pump must either run continuously or the user must be diligent enough to turn it on/off at the appropriate time. This can be remedied by purchasing a relay kit, but this adds another $20 to an already expensive kit. I also noticed that, when maximum fluid temps were maintained for more than a couple of hours, the fluid gave off a mild odor. While not overpowering, this smell was noticeable and not pleasant. Granted, this CPU will heat the fluid to a higher temperature than most others, but this issue deserves mention.

All in all, the Zalman Reserator 1 Plus is a great product for the computer user seeking to build a quiet system. It's a complete kit that performs well and is easy to install. If your goal is silent computing and your pockets are deep enough, don't overlook the Reserator 1 Plus from Zalman.

Pros:
- Silent liquid cooling
- Very complete kit (just add water!)
- Feature rich
- Clear, informative manual(s)
- Excellent fit and finish
- Wide compatibility
- Availability

Cons:
- A bit pricey
- No provision for powering pump on/off from PC
- Anemic lift performance from pump
- Slightly smelly
- Big!
