2007 Mercedes-Benz SLR 722 Edition unveiled - [briefly] 11:42 AM EDT - Jul,11 2006 - post a comment
Mercedes has unveiled a new special edition SLR called the "722 Edition." The car has increased output of 650 horsepower, a tailor-made suspension configuration, and a decidedly sporty interior. 722 Edition" is a homage by Mercedes-Benz to the unforgettable victory won by the British racing legend Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7.22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955. The car accelerates from standstill to 62 mph in only 3.6 seconds, and 124 mph is reached in just 10.2 seconds. The maximum speed is 209 mph.
In other news,
Ford confirmed that a Ford-brand version of its Fairlane concept will reach
the market in 2008. Set to replace the Monterey and Freestar minivans, this
crossover vehicle receives a full three rows of seating and an outward
appearance that, if you squint just enough, looks a little like an oversized
Mini Cooper. Much of the interior and exterior styling are still up for
alterations, so don't expect the version to be unveiled at the British Motor
Show to be the final production model. Word is that Ford is working on two
versions of the Fairlane concept: a more "regular Joe" one to fall under the
Ford banner and possibly an upper scale model that will sport Lincoln badges.
Production is being planned for the Oakville, Ontario plant. |
