Ubuntu Edge Hits $3 Million In A Day - [hardware] 07:21 PM EDT - Jul,23 2013 - post a comment
This good looking device is the Ubuntu Edge, a 'super-phone' powerful enough to give you a full Ubuntu desktop when connected to an external monitor. So it will be 'the world's first truly converged' device, according to Canonical. Of course, getting there is the hard part. Canonical doesn't exactly have a giant bag filled with countless million, so instead they have started a $32 million crowd-funding campaign at indiegogo to make the Ubuntu Edge a reality. At the time of writing this story, they have managed to raise more than $3,663,765 (within a day) with 30 days left. The concept device was available for the 24-hour introductory price of $600, but now it's $830 per device (plus $30 if you are not in the US and the UK).
So why is this concept device big? Well, just take a look at its specs below:
The 'fastest available' multi-core CPU
4GB of RAM
128GB SSD
4.5 Sapphire Crystal screen (1280~720 HD resolution)
Dual cameras (8MP rear, 2MP front)
MHL connector (supporting HDMI)
Long-life silicon anode battery
Dual-LTE, NFC, Dual-band Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4
GPS, Barometer, Compass, Proximity Sensor, Gyro, etc
The device will also dual boot Ubuntu Touch and Android.
