Nvidia
has revised its product roadmap, due to continued strong demand for AGP-based
systems and Intel's ongoing shipments of 865 chipsets, sources at Taiwan
motherboard makers indicated. The graphics chip vendor plans to launch the AGP
version of its GeForce 7600GS/ GT graphics processing units (GPUs) in the third
quarter of 2006, according to the sources. Nvidia is looking to add the GeForce
7600GS/ GT AGP chips to its current AGP offering - the GeForce 7800GS AGP,
indicated the sources. The move is apparently motivated by continued demand for
Intel's 865 series chipsets, which came out
over
three years ago and lack PCI Express. DigiTimes says these chipsets make up
a whopping 10% of Intel's total core logic shipments, and that the company plans
to continue selling 865 chipsets through the first quarter of 2007.
