Vauxhall wants to make it easier to enjoy the sun as you drive.
The company is releasing a special edition Astra GTC to launch their new
panoramic windshield option. The windshield, which is made of heat absorbing
glass so you don't get baked like a potato, wraps over the top of the front
seats of the car. It creates an open, bright feeling which, according to the
company, is superior to a sunroof. There is a power shade to block the sun if it
is particularly blinding.
There will be just 500 of the special edition Astra's with the new windshield
produced. After those are sold the glass will be available as an option which
will cost about $1,600. The Vauxhall obviously won't make it to the U.S., but it
will be interesting to see if GM's new Ion, which is to be based on the Astra,
will have the same option available.
