HotHardware published an Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 And Extreme Edition X6800 Performance Update:

The low-res and high-res F.E.A.R. results told two totally different stories. In the low-resolution tests, Intel's new Core 2 Duo and Extreme processors had huge advantages, almost doubling the performance of the overclocked FX-60 in one of the comparisons. However, with the resolution turned up to a more realistic 1290x960, only a couple of frames per second separated each of the platforms according to the minimum and average reported framerates. Intel continued to show strength according to the maximum framerates though.

Intel's upcoming Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors outpaced an Athlon 64 FX-60 overclocked to 2.8GHz in every benchmark we were able to run. We will hold off from drawing any definitive performance conclusions, however, until we're able to configure a Core 2 Duo powered machine ourselves.

From our benchmarking, we can see that Intel's upcoming range of Conroe processors have a lot of raw performance available. Even the X6800 Core 2 Extreme which is clocked at just 2.93GHz is able to kill the 955 Extreme Edition processor pretty much all of the time. Considering the 955 EE is clocked over half a gig higher than the X6800, it is painting a very good picture for Intel. As Intel ramp up the clock speeds of the new Conroe chips, performance will only become stronger.
