The Pirate Party is a
newly formed worldwide political party with a chapter in the U.S.. Here's
some info from the website:
We want to fundamentally reform copyright law, overhaul the patent system,
and ensure that citizens' rights to privacy are respected. With this agenda, and
only this, we are making a bid for representation in anywhere we can get
elected.
Membership should be free to join any political party, and we're no
exception. If you want to be a member, congrats, you are one now. Still, it
would be nice to send an email to lothar@pirate-party.us to let us know, and if
you want, we'll probably link to your email address or website. In the meantime,
feel free to snag this icon to show your newfound pirateness.
Once we get a sufficient amount of people who express interest in joining, then
we can justify incorporation, holding a convention, and running candidates for
office. Given how the U.S. electoral system works, that probably won't
realistically happen until 2008. However, if we can find people willing to run
in off-year or special elections in 2007, then it may be possible to run
candidates that early.
How long till "The Pirate Party" is labelled a terrorist organization by the Department of Homeland Security? ;)
