United Airlines has
updated its Contract of Carriage in late February 2026 to require passengers to use headphones or earbuds when listening to audio or watching video on personal devices during flights. The policy, added under the "Refusal of Transport" section, allows crew to remove non-compliant passengers from the aircraft and potentially impose permanent bans. United cited the expansion of high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi as a key reason for formalizing the long-encouraged etiquette rule. Complimentary earbuds are available upon request, subject to availability, ensuring no excuses for playing content aloud. The change has sparked widespread passenger approval as a step toward quieter, more considerate cabin environments.
